PHOTOGRAPHER
Theresa Furey and Egg In The Nest Photography
I began Egg in the Nest because I am devoted to capturing life in the place
where it happens…the home. The home is an essential and fundamental
environment to who we are as people. It is the place where a family is begun, is
shaped, moulded and where life unfolds. My own experiences during pregnancy and my life with my husband and son have made me aware of how important capturing life is in these precious moments.
As you browse through my portfolio, I hope you become aware of my passion for pregnancy, child and family photography. I strive to draw out the beauty,
simplicity and essence in each of my subjects. It is a complete joy for me to
capture such loving, caring and joyful images of children and families.
Photography is one the most challenging and constantly changing professions I
have ever been apart of and I am thrilled by it.
I am also a scientific researcher. I was studying for a doctorate at the
University of Oxford until recently. While I was attending the university, I
continued my pursuit of photography and had several prizes and published
photographs in the university paper and for St John’s College, where I was in
residence. I have begun a profession in photography as it has been a life-long
dream. I had the ideal oppurtunity during my time at home with my son during
these precious early years.
Why I choose to breastfeed…
My background in science aided me in my decision to breastfeed my son. I came
from a family background where no one breastfeed or spoke of it. All the babies
I had known were bottle fed. When I thought about this choice during my
pregnancy, my natural inclination was to breastfeed despite my background as I
had already been armed with my education.
Why I wish to promote breastfeeding…
I am choosing to promote breastfeeding to for two main reasons. The first is
because of the scientific knowlege that mothers can aid their child’s development and give them a better chance in life by providing essential nutrients both during and after pregnancy through their own diet and through breastmilk they supply to their children.
The second reason is to help educate mothers like myself who grow up in an
environment where breastfeeding is never practiced or promoted. It is to
provide a healthly view to young mothers and the public that breastfeeding is
afterall the biological reason for the breast organs to exist and that there is
nothing wrong or immoral about breastfeeding your child in a public area–as no
one would think twice if you were to bottle feed a child in a public place.
